Gareth Southgate pledges to restore dropped Raheem Sterling to England team for Kosovo game

Gareth Southgate

Gareth Southgate has promised Raheem Sterling that he will start in Sunday’s final Euro 2020 qualifier in Kosovo, despite admitting that the forward has probably “got the hump” with him for missing England’s 1,000th game against Montenegro.

But England manager Southgate has refused to confirm whether or not Joe Gomez, who Sterling angrily confronted on Monday, will start either match.

Sterling will serve his one-game absence for clashing with Gomez on Thursday night and will watch his England team-mates try to clinch qualification for the European Championships alongside Jordan Henderson, who acted as a peacemaker and is suspended after being booked in Bulgaria.
