Beyonce releases ‘Lion King’ album — her love letter to Africa

Beyonce has finally released her album ‘Lion King’ — not long after she published the featured artistes and album art for the 27-track project.

The album, which was inspired by Disney’s new and recently premiered version of the classic film, was released in the early hours of Friday.

‘Lion King’ boasts of a squad of artistes and songs transcending the confines of race and genre.

Some of the artistes that make an appearance on the album are Kendrick Lamar, Childish Gambino, Pharrell, Tierra Whack, 070 Shake, Major Lazer, Mr Eazi, Tiwa Savage, Burna Boy, Yemi Alade, Shatta Wale, among others.

Before its release, Beyonce had described the album as her “love letter” to the black race.

“The soundtrack is a love letter to Africa. I wanted to make sure we found the best talent from Africa, and not just use some of the sounds and did my own interpretation of it,” Beyoncé told ABC’s Robin Roberts.

“I wanted it to be authentic to what is beautiful about the music in Africa. A lot of the drums, the chants, all of these incredible new sounds mixed with some of the producers from America. We’ve kinda created our own genre.

“I wanted to do more than find a collection of songs that were inspired by the film. This is a new experience of storytelling. It is a mixture of genres and collaboration that isn’t one sound.

“It was important that the music was not only performed by the most interesting and talented artists but also produced by the best African producers.”
