How I turned my £1 house into a £70,000 home: Student, 30, reveals how she transformed dilapidated two-bed terrace into dream abode as part of an almighty makeover for Britain's cheapest street

Five families who bought homes for £1 from Liverpool Council will reveal how they transformed the derelict properties into liveable abodes will star in Channel 4's The £1 Houses: Britain's Cheapest Street, due to air later this month (inset, centre). Student Victoria Brennan (inset, left), aged 30, was one of the lucky few to be selected for the pioneering project. She snapped up her bargain house and loaned £30,000 from her parents to carry out renovations. Meanwhile the Kamaus (inset, top right) had been renting in Liverpool for 16 years after moving to the city from Kenya and decided to give the project a go as a way onto the property ladder but were shocked when they saw the condition of their new home (top left and right). But in just twelve months the couple refitted the house (inset, bottom right), installed functioning electricity and safe plumbing and in June last year, were able to start decorating. The ruined hallway (top right) now has floorboards and has been repainted (bottom right) while the drab bedroom (top right) has been re-plastered and the fireplace stripped back to expose the trendy brickwork beneath
