Star Trek: Next Generation actor Jon Paul Steuer died on Monday, aged 33.

The child star, who soared to fame playing Alexander Rozhenko in the Eighties show, passed away on New Year's Day however the cause of death has not been confirmed, according to reports in Oregon newspaper Willamette Week.

After his years of acting as a child star, Jon went on to forge a career as a musician and restaurateur as he bowed out of the spotlight - however tributes still poured in for the star from loyal Star Trek fans who remember the star from the show.

When news of his death surfaced, the official Facebook account for the show wrote a tribute reading: 'Rest in Peace, Jon Paul Steuer, the first actor to play Alexander in TNG. You will be deeply missed.'

His band P.R.O.B.L.E.M.S, with whom he has performed since last year, also shared a message on Facebook reading: 'It is with heavy hearts and saddened minds that we announce the passing of our dear friend and singer Jonny Jewels, AKA Jon Paul Steuer.

'The addition of Jonny to our dysfunctional band family was one of the best choices that we have ever made, and he brought a much needed sense of fun and lightheartedness to everything we did.

'He was only with us for a little more than a year, but we managed to cram a lifetime of great experiences into his tenure as our singer.
