Britain is set to face severe wind chill as temperatures could drop as low as minus 17C when bitter air from Scandinavia grips the country.
Temperatures over the weekend are forecast to plunge up to 5C below average in parts, with overnight values to drop to -4C in the North West and -2C in England and Wales on Saturday.
It will also be a frosty start on Monday morning for the early school run with temperatures hovering around or below 0C widely.

Hannah Findley, forecaster of The Weather Channel, said wind chill will be greatest where the wind is strongest, including high ground and exposed coastlines.
She said: "In parts of the Scottish Highlands, the wind chill could make it feel up to 10C colder through the early hours of Monday.
