Several injured after passenger train hits freight train in Germany

Around 50 people have been injured after a passenger train hit a freight train in Germany, local police and fire said.Local media reported on Tuesday the accident happened near the train station in the town of Meerbusch, near Dusseldorf.
Rail operator Deutsche Bahn said a passenger train of the regional provider National Express drove into a freight train from DB Cargo about 6.30pm.

Authorities said there had been multiple injuries but didn’t immediately have more specific information.

The Meerbusch fire department said up to 150 passengers were on the train and five people suffered injuries.

A police spokesman earlier told German broadcaster ARD that about 50 people had been injured after the passenger train ploughed into a freight train.
