Chester the beagle was savagely torn to pieces by two dogs (centre and inset), after he was let off his lead to enjoy a run around the park in Eccles, Manchester. The two-year-old had 'chunks missing from his body' after he was set upon by the dogs which appear to be pitbulls, a breed banned in the UK. Greater Manchester Police said the animals had now been seized under the Dangerous Dogs Act. In harrowing footage of the attack, the owner can be seen trying to unlock the dog's jaws before walking away. Police said the owner has not yet been arrested, as the investigation was ongoing. Jennifer Thorley, a hospital doctor, had bought Chester as a wedding gift for her husband two years ago. The devastated 29-year-old (left and right with her husband) said: 'He was our best friend, we absolutely loved him. Those dogs enjoyed it. What if this happens to a child? We need to do something.' Peter Moran, the first person on the scene, said never in his life had he 'seen utter barbaric scenes.' Janet Payne, Chester's dog walker, said she was forced to watch him being thrown around 'like a rag doll' and claims when she asked the dogs' owner for help, he simply replied: 'Why the f*** wasn't your dog on a lead?
