Catalonia's president 'will apply for asylum' after fleeing to Brussels as Spain issues him with €6 MILLION bail
Carles Puigdemont (left) fled to Brussels on Monday as Spanish authorities called for the ousted Catalan leader to be charged with rebellion, sedition and embezzlement as his government capitulated to Madrid. Mr Puigdemont had threatened to defy Spanish authorities by turning up to work, but instead fled to Belgium with five of his ministers. He will now apply for asylum with a decision expected in the next five days, Spanish media reports. Speaker Carme Forcadell (bottom right) did turn up to work despite also being charged and ordered to turn herself over to police. Sustainability minister Josep Rull (top right) tweeted a picture of himself at his desk, but was seen leaving the building a short time later.
