Race against time to save little girl trapped in rubble of school destroyed in Mexico earthquake as rescuers identify FIVE other children under the debris 44 hours after the quake struck

The race is on to rescue a 12-year-old girl who was buried under rubble (pictured left) after her school collapsed during a devastating magnitude 7.1 earthquake in Mexico City on Tuesday. Rescuers have battled for 15 hours to save the girl, known only as Frida Sofia. They had earlier seen a hand protruding from the debris and the girl wiggled her fingers when asked if she was still alive. 'There's a girl alive in there, we're pretty sure of that, but we still don't know how to get to her,' Admiral Jose Luis Vergara told Televisa, as thermal imaging cameras and rescue dogs are deployed in a bid to find her (pictured bottom right and top right). At least 248 people have been killed since the catastrophe struck on Tuesday - with safety experts fearing the number could climb up to 1,000.
