Recently, a former Ohio teacher was indicted on three counts of sexual battery after it was learned that she had a child with one of her students.According to the New York Post, Laura Lynn Cross, 36, was charged with sexual battery from August 2013 through September 2016.
The father of the teenage boy that Cross was involved with said he raised concerns to Buchtel High School officials and Tallmadge Police in 2012 when his son was a freshman. However, there were no charges filed at the time.
The father, who wished not to identify himself, told News 5 Cleveland, “It was a straight failure from the system. From the school and definitely from the police.”
Cross resigned from her position in 2015, and somehow convinced the teen’s mother to let him move in with her through a court-approved “partial parental custody” arraignment. Cross told the teen’s mother she would be a “mentor,” and filled her social media with photos of her and the teen.
Last week officials charged the 36-year-old after it was learned that she had a child with the teen, which was kept a secret until the teen’s father contacted News 5 Cleveland.
The former teacher is now being held at Summit County Jail on $100,000 bond.
