Real Madrid 4-1 Juventus, UEFA Champions League final RESULT: Cristiano Ronaldo at the double as Zinedine Zidane's side make history

He did what he always does. And Real Madrid did what they have done so often since this rather magnificent trophy was first awarded in 1956.

Cristiano Ronaldo, at 32, is still demanding centre stage. He won an FA Cup final at this stadium in 2004 as a callow youth against Millwall. It was his first ever trophy. On Saturday night he secured his 20th.

The opposition was somewhat more glamorous here, the prize more treasured but the performance remained the same. He did what he does, which is to lead from the front and ensure that, if silverware is at stake, he is the man left holding it at the end.

Finally the presentation ceremony is underway on the pitch

Worth the wait though. It does look pretty slick with a giant Real Madrid badge. The match officials are first to collect their medals followed by the Juventus players who are given a guard of honour by the Madrid players,

A bit of a delay in the presentation ceremony

And my thoughts go towards the Juventus who are being forced to stick around on the pitch and watch the Real Madrid players celebrate while they wait to collect runners-up medals.

Madrid will lift the trophy in their white strip. Always thought lifting the cup in the shirt you won the game in makes that particular strip more iconic (Juventus in 1996 for example), but each to their own.Gareth Bale and Luka Modric of Real Madrid embrace after winning the Champions League
