Britain is braced for hottest June day since 1976 tomorrow with highs of 95F - as heatwave chaos melts roads, buckles railways and brings toxic smog
Parts of Britain will face a toxic smog tomorrow as Defra issued a prediction of moderate or high pollution in some parts of the country today (pictured left, Hampstead Heath in London). Temperatures will be even higher tomorrow, topping 93F (34C), compared with 91F (33C) today. Roads in Britain have been melting amid extreme temperatures as the country bakes in a heatwave. Emergency repairs were carried out in parts of Cambridge where tarmac has succumbed to the climbing temperatures. One driver in Lancashire found out the hard way when he was forced to scrape the melted goo off his shoes. Commuters have been forced to use newspapers as makeshift fans as they battle train journeys without air conditioning, shown right.
