Brave Asian woman squares up to EDL leader while defending a Muslim woman in a headscarf

The moment protester Saffiyah Khan faced down far-right supporters including their leader (left) became the enduring image of the EDL's march in Birmingham on Saturday (right and inset). Today she said she 'was not scared in the slightest' and was eventually taken away by police for her own safety. Miss Khan, who calls herself a proud 'Brummie', said she felt compelled to confront the EDL's leader Ian Crossland and over 20 of his supporters confronted a Muslim woman. Today he described her as a 'left wing scrubber' who is 'lucky' to have teeth left in her mouth. Explaining what happened she said: 'A group of 25 quite big-looking EDL lads, they surrounded her. She was terrified. I don't like seeing people getting ganged up on in my town'.
