Engaged couple are imprisoned in Abu Dhabi for sex outside marriage after doctor discovered woman, 27, was pregnant as fiancé's mother says 'the only thing they did wrong was fall in love'

Emlyn Culverwell' 29, and Iryna Nohai, 27, were reportedly arrested in the United Arab Emirates for unlawful sex outside of marriage on January 29, just two days after they got engaged. The arrests came after Nohai went to a clinic when she was suffering from stomach cramps and was told she was pregnant. Having sex outside of marriage is illegal in the UAE, and those who are convicted can face long jail sentences. Culverwell and Nohai have not, however, been charged because authorities are still investigating. Culverwell has been working in the UAE for the past five years and first started dating Noahi in 2014.
