Many of the protesters said they had never seen a rally so big and remarked they "can hear the roar" of the crowd from 10 minutes away.
The rally is in protest at President Trump's controversial travel ban, which has targeted travellers to the US who are from seven Muslim-majority countries.
Among the public figures who attended were Gary Lineker and Lily Allen as well as Baroness Shami Chakrabarti and Diane Abbott who both spoke to the crowds. Also expected to attend were Ed Miliband, comedian Shappi Khorsandi, Lib Dem leader Tim Farron and Bianca Jagger.
