Your 17.4MILLION votes aren't enough: Gina Miller's star QC Lord Pannick claims huge public backing alone is not enough to trigger Article 50 as he DISMISSES PM's Brexit vote as 'irrelevant'
Gina Miller's star QC Lord Pannick, inset, has dismissed the Prime Minister's showdown Westminster vote tonight saying nothing would be altered 'by a motion'. Lord Pannick has claimed it was legally 'impossible' for the referendum result to be viewed as a mandate for the Prime Minister to start Brexit. Speaking today he said: 'To hold a referendum is a very important matter however it has nothing to do with who holds the power [to start Brexit]'. President of the Supreme Court Lord Neuberger grilled him on the point and said it was 'surprising' that he was insisting 'the referendum could have no consequences in law'. But Lord Pannick responded that the June 23 vote was simply to 'advise' not to decide whether to leave the EU. It came as his client Gina Miller, 51, main picture, was led into court flanked by bodyguards after a Bath man, 55, was arrested on suspicion of making racist threats.
