BREAKING: Former astronaut John Glenn dies aged 95



In 1962, Glenn became the first American astronaut to orbit the Earth (left). In 1998, he returned (right) to study its effects on the elderly, making him the oldest man to go into space at the age of 77

Former senator John Glenn, an American war hero who went on to become the first astronaut to orbit the Earth, has passed away at the age of 95. He passed away on Thursday afternoon surrounded by family at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, over a week after he was first hospitalized for an unknown illness. Glenn is survived by his wife of 73 years, Annie.
