Paedophile rugby player who thought he was meeting 14-year-old girl for sex is jailed after being caught by vigilantes

A paedophile who tried to meet a 14-year-old girl for sex has been jailed after being exposed by a group of vigilantes.

Rugby player Richard Ganyata thought he was meeting a schoolgirl for a weekend of sex at Saracens Amateur RFC in Hendon, north London.

The 33-year-old, who claimed to be 23 in the video, had told the girl to pretend she was his little sister's friend when she arrived at the rugby club where he says he has been living.

But Ganyata had actually been talking to a vigilante group called 'Internet Interceptors', who later exposed him on camera.

At Wood Green Crown Court this week, Ganyata was jailed for 18 months and will spend ten years on the sex offenders' register after being convicted of attempting to meet a girl under 16 following grooming.

Construction worker Ganyata, who arrived in the UK three years ago but is of no fixed abode, allegedly had three Facebook accounts to meet women and girls.

The group say his messages to what he thought was a 14-year-old girl stated he planned to touch her intimately and massage her with lotions.

But when he turned up for their rendezvous, he was confronted by members of the group, who called the police.
