Baseball mourns the loss of one of its brightest stars: Marlins staff in tears as teams around the country pay tribute to Jose Fernandez, 24, after he dies in horrific boat accident in Miami

Jose Fernandez (pictured far right), pitcher for the Miami Marlins, has been killed in a boating accident in Florida, the club has confirmed. The Cuban-born 24-year-old was confirmed dead after Miami-Dade Fire Department were called out to a boat (main) that had overturned onto Miami Beach rocks 3am Sunday. Even more tragically, the two-time All Star's shocking death came just five days after he posted a photo on Instagram (inset) suggesting that he was about to become a father. Fernandez had been dating Carla Mendoza (bottom inset). Officials confirmed that the other two on the boat were both men in their mid-20s but they are not athletes.
