Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan both field women sprinters with full-body coverings for 100m heats (although one still managed to flash a sliver of midriff)

Sprinter Kariman Abuljadayel, right, became the first Saudi woman to compete in the 100m, inset, and despite finishing seventh in 14.61 seconds she won the respect of people around the globe for her efforts. Standing out from her competitors in a full-body kit and hijab, she is just one of four Saudi women to take part in this year's event four years after the country lifted a ban to allow women to compete at all. She was joined in racing in a hijab by Kamia Yousufi, left, for Afghanistan, but she could only finish last with a time of 14.02 seconds.
