Britain bakes on one of the hottest July days EVER with temperatures set to reach 35C - as Twitter goes into a heatwave meltdown over sweltering trains and boiling offices
Social media has been awash with posts from people who have already endured uncomfortable journeys into work - while luckier sun-worshippers have already splashed on the sun cream and started enjoying the heat. The mini-heatwave does come with warnings though: officials have already
issued health advice as the temperature soars, yet forecasters have also predicted torrential downpours in parts of the country tonight, with up to two inches of rain expected in some areas. This will bring a risk of flash flooding, with the Met Office also warning of frequent lightning, large hail and strong winds. The heat today (centre inset) has been caused by a warm plume of air from Spain and will bring temperatures close to the July record of 36.7C.
