Boris Johnson ridiculed after his plane makes emergency landing at Luton Airport - delaying hundreds of holidaymakers' flights - as he prepared to charm diplomats in Brussels

The Foreign Office confirmed there was a 'technical issue' with the Royal Air Force plane carrying Boris Johnson (main, file photo) from RAF Northolt to Brussels, where he was travelling to meet European leaders. The BAE 146 aircraft made its unscheduled stop at Luton airport, north west of London on Sunday. It suffered a problem with its hydraulic system and fire engines were deployed as the plane landed at the airport. The unplanned stop also caused disruptions to other flights leaving the airport and people quickly took to social media to vent their frustration (inset).
