‘Someone had to stop him’ Brit assassin reveals why he tried to kill Donald Trump

POLARIS/GETTY PLOT: Michael Sanford was foiled after allegedly plotting for a year to kill Donald Trump

Brit Michael Sandford, 20, described as a Robot Wars obsessed Mummy’s boy, was arrested in America after he allegedly tried to grab a gun at a rally for the loud-mouthed White House wannabe.

The unemployed oddball lad – who was in the US illegally – admitted to plotting to take out Trump for the past year, telling Secret Service agents he “finally felt confident” to try it.

Sandford, from Dorking, Surrey, now resides in a desert prison in Las Vegas and his parents have told what drove the geek to plan to assassinate one of the world’s most recognisable politicians.

He has been charged with an act of violence on restricted grounds, and could face up to ten years in prison.

“Did someone start feeding him information? Did they set him up for it? I really think he has been brainwashed” His dad Paul Davey

His parents Paul and Lynne told the Mail on Sunday he was a deeply troubled young man who urgently needed psychiatric help.

Sandford has Aspergers and his father believed he had been brainwashed into the killing attempt.

They said he is being held in isolation in Las Vegas and is “bewildered and frightened”.

Sandford’s father Paul travelled to the US to speak to his son in jail on Friday and was shocked when he confessed and revealed what had driven him to kill.

His Dad said: “I asked him what happened and he would only say that if Trump was elected, it would change the world and that somebody had to stand up for America.

“I have never heard him talk like that before. I can’t understand why he was so motivated and politicised that he thought grabbing a gun from a policeman was a good idea.”

He added: “I think the people he met, and was living with, may know what motivated Michael. Did someone start feeding him information? Did they set him up for it? I really think he has been brainwashed.”
