'Islamic extremist' slaughters 20 people after bursting into US LGBT bar 'wearing a suicide vest' and shooting 42 clubbers on the dance floor before he is killed in police shootout
UPDATED Around 20 people were killed by the gunman, who was armed with an assault rifle, handgun and explosive device, inside Pulse nightclub (insert image) in Orlando. A further 22 were injured as revellers were told to 'run for their lives' at about 2.00 local time (6am GMT). Police have called the mass shooting a 'domestic terror attack' and believe that the man, thought to be in his 20s, had links to Islamic extremism. A policeman working at the club at the time exchanged shots with the attacker before calling for back-up. Dozens of officers, as well as explosive experts, then surrounded the club. Eyewitnesses described the gunman having a bomb strapped to himself when he started shooting. At around 7.00 local time (11am GMT) police said on Twitter: 'Pulse Shooting: The shooter inside the club is dead.'
