MTV Movie Awards 2016 winners list

The Force was strong at Saturday’s MTV Movie Awards, as Star Wars: The Force Awakensblasted past all other films to wind up

as the night’s big winner.

J.J. Abrams’ blockbuster adventure, the seventhStar Wars film, scored 11 total nominations and won three awards: Movie of the Year, Breakthrough Performance (for Daisy Ridley) and Best Villain (for Adam Driver, who played Kylo Ren in The Force
Awakens).

Hosted by Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart, the MTV Movie Awards celebrated some of the last year’s biggest box office hits in addition to Star Wars. Deadpool won two awards, with star Ryan Reynolds grabbing both: Best Comedic Performance for playing the Merc with a Mouth and Best Fight (an award Reynolds shared with costar Ed Skrein).

Pitch Perfect 2 also won two trophies: Best Ensemble Cast and Best Kiss for Rebel Wilson and Adam DeVine.

Other winners included Chris Pratt (Best Action Performance), Charlize Theron (Best Female Performance), Leonardo DiCaprio (Best Male Performance), and Amy Poehler (Best Virtual Performance). Special honors were also presented to Will Smith, who received the MTV Generation Award, and Melissa McCarthy, who

 In a shift from years past, the 2016 Movie Awards took place Saturday evening, but will air on Sunday on MTV. Viewers who tune in will be treated to new sneak peeks at Captain America: Civil War, Suicide Squad, and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
