As Manchester Evening News Sport has detailed extensively in recent months, United have been in regular dialogue with Mourinho, who reached a gentleman's agreement with the club in February and agreed a deal earlier this month.
The Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira reportedly jetted into England this week to negotiate a deal for the 18-year-old Portugal international.
United have entered the race to sign Charlie Coppola from non-league side Lewes.
The 16-year-old is also apparently interesting Leicester, Chelsea and Arsenal.
And Marcus Rashford 's England Under-21 debut might be on hold, since he is unlikely to play in May's Toulon Tournament after United reached the FA Cup final.
