Manchester City have drawn Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final and so could meet Pep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich in the final if they knock out the 10-time winners out.
Guardiola is to replace the City manager, Manuel Pellegrini, on 1 July. City will host Real for the first leg on the 26/27 April at the Etihad Stadium and play the return game at the Santiago Bernanbéu on 3/4 May.
Pellegini was Real coach between 2009 and 2010, when he was replaced by Jose Mourinho. Real finished second behind Barcelona in La Liga that season but Pellegrini was fired for not winning the title.
The main threat to City progressing to the final for the first time in their history will be the in-form Cristiano Ronaldo. The 31-year-old scored a hat-trick in Tuesday night’s 3-0 quarter-final second leg victory over
Wolfsburg that took Real through on a 3-2 aggregate.
City reached the European Cup semi-finals for the first time with a 3-2 aggregate victory over Paris Saint-Germain.
The final is at San Siro in Milan on 28 May.
