Devastating landslide rips a Japanese mountain apart: Death toll rises to 36 after second earthquake destroys roads, bridges and homes

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said it is now a 'race against time' to rescue those trapped in the rubble, but landslides (main) and the damage done to roads have hampered efforts. Ten people were killed by the first quake on Thursday and another 22 so far after the shock yesterday. It brings the total death count to 32 and authorities say it is set to rise. Dramatic drone footage shows the devastation to the region from the air (pictured), and people at a school were forced to write 'SOS' on the ground in a desperate bid to get help (bottom centre).
