© REUTERS Jose Mourinho Football has the capacity to surprise like no other sport but in terms of ridiculous occurrences, Jose Mourinho succeeding Arsene Wenger as Arsenal manager would be up there with the most jaw-dropping.Mourinho has been a free agent since getting sacked by Chelsea before Christmas and has been massively linked with the Manchester United job should Louis van Gaal be let go in the summer.
That has always seemed like Mourinho's most likely destination, with the Special One having had a fascination with United since Alex Ferguson was in charge.
But if a report for One World Sports from prominent football journalist Duncan Castles turns out to be true, it could shake up the Premier League even more than if Mourinho went to Old Trafford. With Arsene Wenger's position coming under more and more pressure as the prospect of Arsenal missing out on the Premier League title becomes increasingly likely, it is possible that the club might make a managerial change too.
And Castles is saying that a third party, claiming to represent Arsenal, has told Mourinho to hold off on committing to any club as Wenger's position might become available.

Mourinho's style is more reminiscent of George Graham's Arsenal than Wenger's and after spending the last ten years fighting off ferocious verbal attacks from the Portuguese manager, it would be a massive insult to appointment him as Wenger's successor.
It does appear to be a VERY tentative approach and it will probably never happen, but regardless, it will be interesting to watch this story develop if Arsenal continue to implode in the final months of the season.
