A court in his home country ruled that he failed to pay any tax on earnings he made while playing for former club Santos between 2011 and 2013 as well as earnings from sponsorship deals.
Court documents said he hid £11million which should've been paid in taxes in companies which he set up with his father Neymar da Silva between 2012 and 2014.
The Brazil captain was ordered by a judge to pay that back as well as an extra £25million in interest and fines.
Develly Claudia Montez, who performed the audit for the court, said: "We studied the information regarding the tax case in question, Neymar, the three businesses and his business partners [parents of the player] and we found that there were fraudulent business practices."
Neymar denied the charges and can still make an appeal against the decision.
The player is also currently under a separate investigation over his big money transfer from Santos to Barcelona in 2013.
Barcelona claim the transfer fee for Neymar was £44million, however, Brazilian investment fund DIS, who owned 40% of the player's sporting rights when he was at Santos, say the actual fee was in fact a lot higher and believe they were due a larger amount of money than they received when the 24-year-old moved to the Nou Camp.
Spanish prosecutors claim the fee was actually closer to £65million.
It is claimed that Neymar benefited financially from the move, with his companies allegedly absorbing the money which DIS were due from the reported 'actual' fee.
Will Neymar go on to be as good as Lionel Messi?
