Dr Roberto Canessa (inset) was a 19-year-old medical student travelling with his teammates from the Christian Brothers College rugby squad who were on their way to play a match in Santiago, Chile, when their plane crashed over the Andes on October 13, 1972. Here he tells his honest account of how the 27 survivors came to the agonising decision to eat the bodies of those killed, and said their final goodbye to innocence.
