Cameron will announce referendum date TODAY as he claims to have secured 'special status' for Britain in the EU - but critics slam deal that gives away key demands on welfare, borders and benefits
David Cameron confirmed he will announce the date of the EU referendum today (pictured inset) after claiming he has secured 'special status' for Britain within the organisation that allows us to have 'the best of both worlds'. The Prime Minister (pictured right) concluded a deal after more than 30 hours of gruelling talks in Brussels between the leaders of the 28 EU member states, securing an agreement that would pave the way for the 'In/Out' referendum, expected to be in June. As he made his announcement (centre), Mr Cameron was looking tired having only had three hours sleep the night before. At one point in the proceedings, it all proved too much for Germany's Angela Merkel (left), who was spotted out on the town buying some chips. Some critics have slammed the deal as a compromise, as it gives away key demands on welfare, border control and child benefits.
