Wedding in a warzone: Extraordinary defiance of Syrian newlyweds as they pose for pictures in the ravaged city of Homs

The bride and her soldier groom - neither of whom has been identified - were pictured posing for a remarkable photoshoot following their wedding in the war-torn Syrian city of Homs. Dressed in a stunning white gown, with a glittering tiara on her head, the bride looked emotional as her husband embraced her tenderly from behind (left). Around them, buildings stood abandoned and partially blown apart, while rubble littered the dusty ground (right). The touching pictures were taken by photographer Jafar Meray, who deemed them 'proof that life goes on, silently'.
