So hot we're off for a swim! Thousands of revellers take a festive dip as Christmas Day is set to be warmest on record with mercury soaring to a scorching 15C
The UK woke up to an unusually mild December 25, with some even opting to go for a festive swim to cool off. Temperatures in Somerset, Devon and Cornwall are set to reach 15C today and could potentially break the record set in 1896 of 15.6C. Thousands of people took part in Christmas events by running into seas and lakes across the country. In Bournemouth people sported fancy dress and ran into Boscombe Beach (main image) for a charity swim. The same happened in Exmouth, Devon (inset), with many stripping off for a quick dip. Londoners made use of the unusually warm Christmas Day weather by having competing in the Peter Pan Cup in the Serpentine Lake at Hyde Park.
