Contrary to earlier report that about 500 Nigerians were deported by the United Kingdom to Nigeria early morning today, Wednesday, November 25, the United Kingdom Government has clarified that only 48 Nigerians were actually deported.
A top official of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) also confirmed that only 48 Nigerians deportees arrived from the UK, adding that the 48 deportees had nothing to do with the 29,000 Nigerians that the UK was planning to deport back into the country.
It was gathered that the deportees came aboard a chartered plane that touched down at the Hajj and Cargo Terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos at about 8am.
The Spokesperson of the Nigerian Immigration Service, Mr. Ekpedeme King, who confirmed the development, said the Nigerians were deported for immigration-related offences.

Latest reports monitored on the BBC inform that the plane carrying about 500 Nigerians deported from the UK has landed in Lagos.
According to the report, most of the deportees expressed their sadness to return to the country.
One of the deportees stated that he was arrested by British police and was not allowed to even take his belongings before being deported.
It was gathered that some of the deportees who claimed not to have relatives in Nigeria are stranded in the airport.
