Religious nut killed mum after row about watching preacher on TV

Jermaine Gilchrist, 39, killed his mum Beryl in June 2010 and has today been jailed for life.
The Old Bailey heard Beryl, 58, fell out with Jermaine and his brother Elvis after she set up her own religious sect.
She even changed her name to Nazarine, a name which usually refers to Jesus himself.


A holy war erupted one day at her home in Croydon, south London, when she had a go at Jermaine for watching a preacher on TV.
His lawyer Oliver Blunt QC said: ''Mr Gilchrist was watching a preacher, she didn't like that preacher, and that argument ended up in the fatal attack on Mrs Gilchrist."
After being arrested Gilchrist told police: "She began speaking to me very rudely, talking to me like I was some beast between her legs. I judged her."
Gilchrist was detained under the Mental Health Act in 2011 and spent four years in a rehabilitation clinic.

After being declared sane, he was sentenced today after pleading guilty to murdering his mum and a separate attack on an ex-girlfriend, Joanne Helm, 23.
The court heard he travelled to London from his home in Huddersfield and bought a knife from a pound shop on the way. After the killing he sold her mobile phone.'
