Refugee children forced to have 'survival sex' to pay ruthless people smugglers, claims UN - as record 56,000 migrants land in Greece in just days
Children are being forced to prostitute themselves to continue their journey, either because they have run out of money or they have been robbed, the UN Refugee Agency has said. They are particularly vulnerable to sexual attacks in overcrowded reception sites, which are often dimly lit and lack separate spaces for single woman and families with children. It comes as more than 56,000 people, mostly Syrians, made the treacherous Mediterranean crossing from Turkey to Greece over the last six days.
