The Delta Boeing 737 was getting ready to depart Atlanta in the US, when it was hit by the powerful bolt of lightning.
The shocking moment was captured on camera by Jack Perkins, who was travelling on another flight.
Delta spokesman Morgan Durrant, confirmed that 111 passengers and six crew members were on board the aircraft when it was hit.
Luckily, no one was injured in the incident although it's unclear if the plane continued on its journey to Las Vegas.
The clip, which was uploaded to YouTube, appears to show the bolt hitting the rear of the plane.
It strikes with such force that the tyres can be seen glowing red as the energy passes into the ground.
Strikes on planes are more common than you think with every aircraft getting hit once a year.
Modern planes are designed to cope with mother nature with experts saying a strike typically leaves little or no evidence.
