Summer holiday getaway chaos for thousands of families as M6 is closed after lorry fire MELTS the road causing huge tailbacks
A lorry burst into flames at around 1.30am between junctions 12 and 13 of the M6 (top and bottom right), causing the road to melt meaning it will be shut southbound today until at least 4pm for emergency repair work. Tailbacks are stretching for 11 miles with delays of up to four hours with traffic slowing to a standstill at some points (centre and left). Part of the M20 is also closed to tourist traffic after lorries attempting to cross into France ended up stacked along the side of the carriageway. The news will spell misery for millions of holidaymakers taking to the roads for their summer getaway.
