The sometimes Good Morning Britain host warned his followers about his upcoming Mail Online article by tweeting: "Warning to Black Twitter: I don’t think you’re going to like my column about @NICKIMINAJ."
Unsurprisingly, this tweet did not go down well with Black Twitter – the online community, primarily African-Americans, who discuss black issues on social media.
And things got worse when his piece was published.
After complaining that Nicki refused to meet his children while visiting America's Got Talent and questioning her work ethic, Piers turned his attention to the Minaj/Swift beef.“I have no sympathy with Nicki Minaj, who emerges as a whiny brat that just doesn’t like losing”Piers Morgan
In case you've been stranded without wi-fi for the past two days, Nicki took to Twitter to ask MTV why her video for Anaconda had not been nominated for Video Of The Year, before discussing racism in the music industry – to which Taylor replied that she should be supporting other women.
The 50-year-old wrote: "Taylor was promptly eaten alive on social media by the self-styled ‘Black Twitter’ – a very large, vocal and aggressive social media group of mainly black Americans who collectively leap on any perceived racial insult or bias to expel their indignation.
Piers then said Nicki's "charges of racism and big-bodyism are frankly laughable when you consider that three of the five nominations for Video of the Year are black artists".
As Morgan's article trended, readers targeted him for his insensitive comments.
One wrote: "Is anyone surprised that @piersmorgan described black Twitter as aggressive? That trope is as old as racism itself. Opinionated ≠ Aggressive", while another added: "Typical of Piers Morgan to write an article dissing someone who ignored his royal pomposity."
Meanwhile, Morgan is rumoured to be in the running for a permanent Good Morning Britain hosting position.
The former US chat show host is believed to be in advanced negotiations to join Susanna Reid, Ben Shepard and Kate Garraway after impressing bosses when he filled in for Shepard earlier this year.
