My affair with Mariah Carey: Desperate loneliness and yes men, why I left before I descended into madness

Mariah and Damizza back in 1997 - the couple were a toxic match

An ex lover of Mariah Carey has revealed the desperately lonely life behind one of the world’s most famous women.
Surrounding herself with yes men, freakishly wandering around her exclusive apartment on tip toes and never speaking to fans, record producer Damion Young paints a bleak picture of the multi-platinum selling artist.
Now 40, Damion worked with Mariah on hits like I Still Believe, Cry Baby and Irresistible, describes how she would sink into a grim silence after the showbiz spotlight was extinguished for the day.
Damion met the star shortly after she split from her first husband Tommy Mottola in 1997 and was just finding her freedom (Mariah famously described their home as Sing Sing – after the New York prison).

Former alcoholic Damion, who recorded under the stage name Damizza, told the Daily Mail: “Mariah lives inside a bubble. I lived inside her world for a while but I had to get out for my own sanity.
“The thing I remember most about being with her was the quiet and the loneliness. She didn’t have many friends.”
He describes her routine of going to bed at 4am and getting up in afternoon before lounging around watching films.
Never speaking to hotel staff, Mariah would often get her “people” to empty hotel lobbies and lifts so she could walk through them alone.
“She never even sees a bell person, never has any normal interactions. The only time she sees her fans they are screaming and pushing to get at her. It’s frightening. It’s life in a bubble,” he said.

Mariah has since moved on and had two children

As the pair’s relationship turned sexual Damion admitted he found it hard to cope with her fame.
He describes once buying her an outfit in 2001 after the fragile star collapsed from exhaustion, and mistakenly buying trainers. Mariah just snapped: “I don’t do flats.”
Their relationship soon disintegrated with Damion necking two bottles of vodka day in an attempt to cope with his lover’s stardom. Mariah moved on, marrying ex Nick Cannon in 2008 and having two children, Morrocan and Monroe.
“I became resentful that everything was about Mariah. Even when it was my birthday party our plans revolved around what she wanted to do. I went from being the nicest guy in the room to being a complete jerk.”

"Mariah, like any star of that level, never looked back. She just kept moving and that’s what broke my heart. I’d never had my heart broken before."
Damion, who has turned his life around after a stint in rehab and now mentors former gang members, admits he would love to see his former flame one more time.
The self-confessed gentlemen admitted: “I loved her then and I love her now.”
