Britain's Got Talent studio is evacuated after builders discover unexploded 110lb WWII bomb near Wembley Stadium - but football play-offs WILL go ahead
Performers rehearsing for the ITV programme and local residents were among those cleared outside a 1,300ft police cordon in north-west London shortly before 3pm yesterday. The 50kg explosive (pictured), which is believed to have been dropped over the capital during Nazi bombing raids in the early 1940s, was discovered by builders working near the national stadium. Police reportedly told bystanders that bombs of this size can take up to a week to remove, while the Army has warned of a 'genuine risk to life'. Among the Britain's Got Talent acts understood to have been rehearsing at the time of the evacuation were The Crumble Song singer Lorraine Bowen - given a gold buzzer by judge David Walliams on Saturday's programme (together top right inset) - and producers are now looking for an alternative to Fountain Studios, where the show is filmed. There were fears that the discovery may jeopardise the Football League play-off finals which were due to start at Wembley tomorrow but a spokesman for the stadium confirmed that the Championship, League One and League Two matches would still go ahead.
