London paralysed by striking bus drivers: Rush-hour misery for millions as action hits two-thirds of buses and causes more than 1,200 MILES of traffic jams across the capital (so how will YOU get home tonight?)
Passengers were warned that their journeys will be 'significantly disrupted' because of a walkout by thousands of members of the Unite union. The strike- which chaotic scenes at London Victoria station (main image) - came despite the fact that only 16 per cent of drivers in the capital voted for the industrial action over pay. There were 2,156 congestion hotspots and 1,282 miles of tailbacks across the Greater London area at 8.30am today (pictured inset), according to TomTom Traffic. The average total jam length during the peak hour in London is 501 miles.
