The officers were rushed to hospital following the shootings in Brooklyn but were pronounced dead shortly after.
Cops say a pistol was found close to the scene of the murders.
Shortly before the killings Brinsley had posted warning messages abut how he was going to kill "pigs".

He said it was revenge for the death of Eric Garner when an officer put him in a chokehold which sparked protests across New York in July.
In the sick post on Instagram he wrote: "I'm Putting Wings on Pigs Today. They take 1 of ours…Let's Take 2 of Theirs."
He also added the shootings were to avenge the death of black teenager Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri in August.
New York Police Commissioner William J Bratton said that two of New York's finest had been killed "with no warning".
He said: "It's sometimes difficult to find the words to speak to events like those that occurred today, to try and make sense of them. But we'll try.
