GEORGE Clooney may follow Hollywood icons Arnold Schwarzenegger and Ronald Reagan by running for Governor of California, pals believe.
He is already a massive campaign contributor to the Democratic Party and President Obama and has funded his own drone spying missions to report war atrocities and human rights violations in Syria to the US government.
Political insiders also believe Amal, 36, who is leading WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange’s fight against extradition, would make an ideal First Lady.
A source close to Clooney said: “He has already proved a powerful activist and has always said he would consider taking on a political career if the opportunity arose.”
Although his LA spokesman refused to comment on any bid to become governor, a close associate said: “Tellingly, he is turning down a lot of longer-term projects in Hollywood.”
State Democrats want the suave Ocean’s Eleven star to join the 2018 race and think he could eventually go on to become president, just like Reagan.
Clooney, 53, who is planning to marry British barrister Amal Alamuddin this summer, is said to be “fired up” at the prospect of a new career in politics.
