The driver was alone in a Nissan Micra with the book spread across her steering wheel on the M1 motorway in Leicestershire. Builder Andrew Stonham was heading home when he spotted the reckless act. The woman carried on reading at the wheel for ten miles and kept on turning pages even after Mr Stonham and his work colleague had waved and beeped at her to stop. Road safety campaigners have called the pictures 'shocking' while police described the behaviour as 'irresponsible and dangerous'.
